mostly true, but as for “[the] primary purpose of most browser toolbars and plugins is to track your browsing activity,” i’d argue the major search engines just use them for market dominance.
i guess i can understand users wishing for more privacy, but frankly, i kind of wish some of my purchases *would* have shown up on Beacon lately.

you’re right, most non technical people do not care about beacon etc.
But when I put it as facebook will know about what you bought at any site participating, and this will be recorded (apparently even if you’re not logged in according to CA analysis), most people seem to be spooked.

Mostly I agree with you — many folks won’t care about Beacon — but I still think people need to be educated about taking responsibility for their own data.
